First Opened: 1988

Fun Facts:

  • Named after A.L. Burruss, who served nine terms in the Georgia Legislature from 1964 – 1986; and was a strong supporter of quality education for the state and for Marietta and Cobb County.
  • The Burruss Beaver mascot was selected because beavers were found on the property when construction began.
  • Our current MCS Teacher of the Year, Barbie Esquijarosa, teaches at A.L. Burruss.

A comprehensive academic program that incorporates the performing and visual arts into the teaching of core courses.

First Opened: 1959

Fun Facts:

  • Opened to accommodate growth in the Southwest part of the city, specifically, Whitlock Heights neighborhood. Originally serving grades 1-8, it was built as an open concept school with breezeways forming the halls to the classrooms.
  • Hickory Hills was the first elementary school to integrate in 1966.
